A day visit away from the maddening crowd to one of the most spectacular hill station near Kochi, Kulamavu. Set in a scenic backdrop, Kulamavu is a great hide out near Kochi for a full filled weekend break or a day visit with your friends and family.
An early start from Kochi and less than an hour you reach Muvattupuzha, where you could stop for breakfast. You have different option for the food lovers. For a hot plate of dosa or Idly try the Idly house or if you are in for a non veg breakfast, you could try Dhanya restaurant known for the Muslim delicacy the beef curry and steaming Appam which would be served to your plates straight from the Tava.
After a short break, you can be back on the road. Soon you will be off the main highway as you drive through village roads until you reach the village called Udumbanoor. After that the climb starts through narrow village roads all the way to Uppukunnu the peak with an amazing view of both the sides. This is a great picnic spot where you could park you car and eve walk to the rocky peaks around called paramada. After a short break you could continue your drive and hit the State Highway 33, one of the best maintained roads in the hill ranges. You take right and the road will soon reach an opening at both side near the Kulamavu Reservoir. The drive continues up the hill until you reach your destination the Kulamavu Hill Resort.
You would be welcomed by a friendly staff with a refreshing welcome drink. You would be given a brief about the property and you have some free time to jump into the swimming pool and kids could have some fun at the well maintained play area.
After a long drive and some refreshing time at the pool, it time for lunch. The resort serves South Indian buffet lunch with fresh local river fish and organic vegetables freshly plucked from the farm. After a sumptuous lunch, you have an option to visit the farm or explore the area. You have a lot of activities on offer at the resort which includes river crossing, paddle boating, kayaking and bamboo rafting. After an adventure filled afternoon, you could use the rooms allotted to you to freshen up and have a hot cup to tea and snacks before you depart the hill station.
The way back is interesting, continue the SH 33 highway to Thodupuzha. The initial stretch is through 21 hairpin bends until you reach the plains at the Ashoka Junction. The drive is interesting along the river Kulamavu. The road will lead you to Thodupuzha and you will hit NH 40 and you could follow the highway all the way back to Kochi.
